Oda Elise Brattås (18), who is a student this year at Mysen upper secondary school, is one of the young people who is grateful for this offer. She hopes that as many people as possible take advantage of this offer.

The check takes place at a traffic station, and they examine the technical condition of the bus or car. After the check, they get a wafer to keep on the bus if the bus is approved.

Reassuring

Oda believes that this offer is reassuring for both the Russian and the parents.

– I really appreciate that this offer is available to us who are Russians this year, it will be a safe Russian time for both the Russians and the worried parents at home. Often when we young people are out in rush hour, many parents can feel a sense of concern regarding things that could go wrong with us, or the bus, so this is a super offer. At the same time, it is a free offer which means more and more of us who are drunk this year will be able to make use of this offer, says Oda.

Oda’s Russian group has a habit, but she doesn’t want to be part of it.

– I myself am part of a Russian group where we have a habit, but I am not part of that habit myself. But at my school there are two groups that have a bus, a girls’ group and a boys’ group, and I would guess that they are most likely to use the free inspection of their buses. But this offer is something new, so there may be many who don’t know about it yet, I myself heard about it for the first time on Tiktok, she says.

Celebration of the Russian era

Oda is a traveling Russian and believes it is possible to celebrate Russian time without having to take a bus.

– I’m a wanderlust myself because I think it’s possible to have fun in other ways, and have just as much fun regardless of whether you’re on the bus or not. But it is certainly a wonderful experience to have a Russian bus and spend Russian time with it, but it is entirely possible to do it in other ways as well. At the same time, you don’t have to pay so much money to join a bus, and the rush hour is so much more about just that. For example, for me, the revue was one of the best things I’ve experienced during my Russian time without being a wandering Russian. I got to experience being with friends and getting to know other people. That is why Russian time is about so much more, says Oda.

Senior adviser at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Øyvind Lund, says that they have offered free inspections of Russian cars and Russian buses for several years.

– We have offered free checks of Russian cars and Russian buses for several years, and as of today we have no plans to cut this offer. The reason we offer this offer is that we want Russians to have as traffic-safe Russian time as possible, for example if they are going out for a drive, it is important that the cars are as safe as possible. This means, for example, that seat belts must be fastened securely, that the brakes work properly and that emergency exits on buses are not blocked. We currently do not have figures from this year’s inspections, but last year a total of 207 Russian cars and 13 Russian buses stopped by for a free inspection, says Lund.
