TEN HAGS PRESS CONFERENCE:
Erik ten Hag clearly expressed his disappointment in the TV interviews after the match, and also at the press conference he was quite clear that this was nowhere near being good enough.
He also referred to it as “the worst loss” several times, without it being specified whether he means throughout his time as United manager, or whether he is more specifically referring to the fact that this was United’s biggest loss this season.
– It is very disappointing. We are definitely underachieving. It is the worst loss and we should have done better.
– It was a team performance that was not as it should have been, and we made big mistakes where we did not follow the plan. We also had individual mistakes, but then we have to make up for each other, but we let each other down, and then one gets our worst loss.
– We know that not all the players play in their favorite position because we have major injury problems, but then we have to help each other.
Erik ten Hag thinks Palace got it way too easy.
– It was very weak how we gave away the goals. It was very disappointing how easily we give it away and it shouldn’t happen.
– This is the fourth loss in 2024. So far you had seen a team where the players followed the script, and therefore we have been difficult to beat even though we have not won much. Today it was easy to beat us.
Ten Hag was asked if he feels confident that all the players are playing for him.
– Yes. I’m sure they had the right intentions and they were eager from the start, but we didn’t perform. Individual players did not perform and we did not perform as a team.
When asked about Jonny Evans, the United manager praised the Northern Irishman for standing up even though it became noticeable that he was not ready for this.
– All respect to Jonny for stepping in, but he wasn’t ready to come into this match. He only had two days of training. He still played for 90 minutes, but he couldn’t play at the level he usually plays at.
