Education Minister Kari Nessa Nordtun (Ap) is fighting for major examination changes.

– I can confirm that I have a goal that the written examination should be completed before 17 May 2026. I have had conversations with my own civil service and with the Norwegian Directorate of Education and my impression is that it may be possible to achieve this in a way that means that the students still learn what they are supposed to, and perhaps even get a better connection in their learning, says Minister of Education Kari Nessa Nordtun to Nettavisen.
Today’s regulations ensure that upper secondary school students are drawn for the written exam on 15 May.
In two years, there may be other bowls. Nordtun wants the russekullet 2026 to be finished with all exams before the May 17 celebration breaks loose.
– It would not be relevant to move the exam earlier just because of the Russian time. The students will still learn the same amount as before, but with this solution they will learn more and be better prepared for the exam, and can still go on the May 17 train with a Russian uniform and Russian card, says Nordtun to the newspaper.
The Minister of Education says that she feels that the will to help change is great from several quarters. She expects that all actors will go to great lengths to get the date change done.
– It is important for me to emphasize that there are many considerations and different interests that must be taken care of in order for us to make this happen. The examination process in Norway is very complex, but I find that all actors are solution-oriented in the conversations I have had so far, says Nordtun in a comment to NTB.
Oral exams are administered locally, and are therefore not part of Nordtun’s proposal.
