Electric car, Fisker Ocean | Car manufacturer on the brink of bankruptcy – cut the price by 200,000

--

The American car manufacturer Fisker Ocean has been in rough weather for a while. The manufacturer has had major problems with capital, and is on the verge of bankruptcy.

Fisker stopped the production of cars for six weeks, from mid-March. This is to balance the stock levels, and continue the way forward strategically as well as find financing alternatives.

In an attempt to empty stocks and bring in fresh money, the car manufacturer cut the prices of all stock cars by up to NOK 200,000 in Norway.

– I don’t usually give advice on what to buy and what not to buy, but it’s strange that some people think that they can make a good purchase here, because it’s like a lottery ticket, where the winnings aren’t big anyway, says Atle Falch Tuverud , editor-in-chief and managing director of Bilforlaget.

The offer is limited to existing stocks of Fisker Ocean Extreme, Ultra and Sport.

According to the website Elbilstatistikk.no, 362 Fisker Ocean cars have been imported into Norway.

Sale with a warning

On Fisker Ocean’s website under information about buying a car on sale to buy out the stock, there is a disclaimer from the manufacturer:

“Due to the current financial situation of the manufacturer Fisker Group Inc. and Fisker’s sales companies in Europe, there is a risk of limited support and limited service for the cars. Buyers must anticipate a permanent loss of the opportunity to make valid claims for material defects and warranty claims. By entering into a purchase contract after 5 April 2024, the purchaser of a Fisker Ocean declares that he/she has been informed of this and still wishes to purchase a Fisker Ocean in light of the described risk.”

It was recently stated that Fisker has 4,700 cars in stock. That is the same number of cars that were sold in the whole of last year.

Expert: – Don’t buy

– Now they have cut the price sharply. Is it worth it?

– No, it’s not worth it. It surprises me that people dare to buy even though there are offers with big discounts on the price. When there is so much uncertainty about further operations, it doesn’t help that the offer is good, says Tuverud.

If Fisker goes bankrupt, there will be no more software updates. Tuverud confirms this:

– That is true, if a player does not buy the bankruptcy estate and then continue. As it has turned out, as with a number of other car manufacturers, cars have been launched and sold where the software has not been good enough or where the software has simply not been fully developed.

Regarding the disclaimer, Tuverud says that they cannot waive their warranty liability according to Norwegian law:

– But warranty liability is of little help if they end up bankrupt. Then it doesn’t help with consumer rights.

– Incidentally, on Saturday Fisker went out and announced that the brand’s roadside assistance service is being shut down with immediate effect, and now Magna Steyr, the Austrian contract manufacturer that has produced the cars for Fisker, has stopped production of the car model. The giant group Magna International has also stated in its quarterly report that they do not expect production of Fisker to start up again.

Huge sums lost

At the end of February, Fisker came up with its annual report for 2023. During last year, the car manufacturer lost 762 million dollars. This corresponds to NOK 8.9 billion.

“2023 was a challenging year for Fisker, including delays from suppliers and other issues that prevented us from delivering the Ocean SUV as quickly as we had expected,” CEO and Chairman Henrik Fisker said in a comment.

“We also encountered unexpected headwinds in our efforts to establish a direct-to-consumer sales model in both North America and Europe at the same time. There were a number of unforeseen challenges, such as rising interest rates, and finding enough skilled labor… »
