Applegate was awarded a star on the venerable Hollywood Walk of Fame Monday this week.

It was the first time she appeared at a public event with the press present after she was diagnosed with the neurological disease multiple sclerosis (MS) last summer.

Physical challenges

– Fighting the disease is as difficult as one would probably thinkshe says in an interview with Variety ahead of the ceremony.

Applegate spoke out about her MS diagnosis earlier this month, and with that has probably put her acting career on the shelf – unless she is able to arrange for recording in the future when she has become better acquainted with the disease and the challenges she faces.

The comedian has said that she overlooked the first symptoms. She received the diagnosis during the recording of the third season of Dead to Me, but she did everything she could to carry it out. The premiere of the third season was postponed due to her health challenges, and will now be released globally on November 17.

During the speech, she says that it must be kept to a minimum as she cannot stand upright for so long at a time.

After the speech, she posed for the photographers on a chair behind the star herself together with, among others, her co-star in Dead to Me, Linda Cardellini, and Married With Children-colleague Katey Sagal.

She thanks her family and friends for all their support and care, and pays a touching tribute to her daughter Sadie Grace.
