Towards the end of last year, the company EV Electra took over Saab’s bankruptcy estate acquirer NEVS (National Electric Vehicle Sweden).

NEVS had secretly developed a new electric car model, the Emily GT, which accompanied the takeover, and in January it was opened for a kind of order for the model.

EV Electra said at the time that the car would be built in Sweden, preferably at the factory in Trollhättan. Now it seems that the successor to models such as the 99, 900, 9-3 and 9-5 will not be a Swedish car.

Bad condition

The Swedish website Carup reports that Trollhättan is losing production of the Emily GT. EV Electra states that they have entered into a contract for the production of the electric car abroad.

– It is clear that the production will take place abroad, in Italy, it is already signed and ready, says Jihad Mohammed, the entrepreneur behind EV Electra, to Carup.

The Trollhättan factory turned out to be in a worse condition for car production than EV Electra had expected. In addition, the founder Mohammad did not want to rent into a factory, but rather own the entire factory himself. Something he was unable to agree with the new owner Svante Andersson about.

Mohammed then posted messages on Linkedin where he elaborated further, reproduced in Autocar:

– Yes, we put in a bid for a car factory in Italy, and finally it was approved yesterday (not the Maserati factory), and in this new place we will build electric cars that will shock everyone.

The presentation of the Emily GT shows that the car will be available with three battery packs of 105-175 kWh, does 0-100 in 3.2 seconds and charges from 0-80 percent in less than 22 minutes.

The car is five meters long, weighs 2,375 kilograms, has space for 150 liters in the front and 540 liters in the back.

The car must also have hub motors, wireless charging and camera mirrors. Among other things.

Several models

In addition, it appears that EV Electra has further plans to expand the model range.

– We have more than one model now, after several acquisitions that have taken place in the last two months, and another one is happening this week which will make us even better equipped, writes Mohammed.

He adds that he cannot give more details at the present time due to concerns for the investors, but that a press release will be issued soon.

It was around this time last year that the first information from NEVS that they had developed a completely new car appeared. Then it was said that the car was a year and a half away from production.

The company that then owned NEVS, China’s Evergrande, had financial problems and put NEVS on hold after failing to secure a buyer. Of the company’s 340 employees, 320 were made redundant.

The factory in Trollhättan was opened in 1947 and Saabs were produced at the plant until bankruptcy in December 2011. NEVS had some production on site a few years later.
