Russia is not enthusiastic about France opening up to sending Western soldiers to Ukraine.
On Monday, the French ambassador in Moscow, Pierre Levy, was called on the carpet.
The reason was “increasingly bellicose statements from the French government”, says a statement from Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
– Russia presented its assessment that Paris’ destructive and provocative line leads to an escalation of the conflict, it continues.
Furthermore, the ministry believes that a French attempt to create “strategic ambiguity” around Russia will not succeed.

Not ruling out sending soldiers
In a recent interview with The Economist magazine, French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated that he will not rule out sending Western troops to Ukraine as a response to the conflict there.
The president said the same thing in March, but at the time both NATO and the US emphasized that there were no such plans.
German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz said that it would not be appropriate to send Western soldiers to Ukraine in the future either, because then there is a risk of drawing the West directly into a war with Russia.
Russia is the country in the world with the most nuclear weapons, which contributes to Western countries probably being more cautious than they would otherwise be. In Western Europe, both France and Great Britain have their own nuclear weapons.
