Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced on Monday morning that they will hold military exercises in the near future.
Here, they will, among other things, train on the preparation and use of tactical nuclear weapons. Tactical nuclear weapons are smaller nuclear weapons developed for use in active combat, and thus differ from strategic nuclear weapons, which are significantly larger.
Russia’s military is now preparing missile formations in the country’s southern military district, which includes the border areas with Ukraine.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense calls the exercise a response to what it refers to as “provocative statements and threats against Russia” from Western officials.
