This is reported by several Nordic media, including Expressen and Dagbladet.
Macabre it seems, but there is – fortunately – a good explanation.
Margareta Thorgren, the Swedish royal family’s information manager, explains to Expressen that the very conspicuous red eye is caused by cold air.
– Cold drafts can be particularly noticeable in the cold months, when the temperature difference between outside and inside is large, she writes in a text message to Expressen.
Margareta Thorgren adds that Queen Silvia’s health is otherwise fine.
Queen Silvia participated during the entire state visit with a smile on her face, and this is praised by the Norwegian Se og Hørs royal family expert, Caroline Vagle.
– I think the queen is cool because she goes through despite a rather scary look. She knows that it will be a topic of conversation and that the photos will be spread all over the world, she tells Dagbladet.
According to Sundhed.dk, an outbreak of blood in the eye is caused by a rupture of a small blood vessel.
– The condition does not affect vision, but can cause concern, as you experience that the “white” of the eye turns red over a large area, says Sundhed.dk.
– In most cases, treatment is not necessary. The bleeding goes away on its own, says the health platform.
