The 36-year-old man was arrested in a hotel – with six pistols and 200 cartridges.
Saturday 30 March at 05:45That is according to Malaysia’s national police chief Razarudin Husain, according to Reuters.
The 36-year-old had traveled from the United Arab Emirates to Kuala Lumpur, where he was arrested.
Already at the airport, the authorities must have become suspicious. He identified himself with what the border guards believe was a fake French passport, says Razarudin.
When he was taken in for a closer check, he found an Israeli passport.
Razarudin says the police are investigating whether the man works for Israeli intelligence.
The 36-year-old himself is said to have said that he has come to Malaysia to find another Israeli to sort out a family conflict.
– We do not fully trust his story and we suspect that he may have another agenda, says Razarudin and adds that the suspected spy man moved between several hotels while he was in Kuala Lumpur.
After the arrest, security has been tightened around Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the Malaysian king and several other prominent people.
Malaysia, which has a predominantly Muslim population, does not have diplomatic relations with Israel. The country has expressed support for the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, where Israel is fighting the Islamist movement Hamas, which rules the besieged Palestinian territory.
