Fewer people want to study IT – but the proportion of women is increasing

--

This year, 142,416 people have applied for a study place in higher education via Samordna optakt.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Education, this is 6,436 more than last year, and an increase of 4.7 per cent.

But the applications for IT education are almost at a standstill, in fact with a tiny one decline.

Easier to enter

While 7,232 people had IT subjects as their first choice in 2023, the figure has now dropped to 7,199.

At the same time have the number IT study places increased, from 2,714 to 2,961 – an increase of 9.1 per cent.

Thus it has become easier to enter the first election this year, for those who want to take an IT education.

Geir Sverre Andersen from Samordna admissions comments on the enrollment figures for higher education during a press conference at OsloMet on Tuesday.
