Molde have now beaten Sarpsborg eight times in a row at Aker Stadion – since 2018 – with a total goal difference of 31-9.
Far from everything voted for Erling Moe’s team after the humiliating loss to Sandefjord on Sunday. But Molde is still in the cup, while Bodø/Glimt, Brann, Rosenborg and a whole bunch of elite league teams have already been knocked out.
- 0–1: Sarpsborg found each other. Stefan Johansen pushed the ball forward to Peter Reinhardsen. The southerner glued the ball to the opposite cross. Reinhardsen’s first goal for 08 was a dream goal.
– An incredible achievement, says NRK expert Carl Erik Torp.
Fredrik Gulbrandsen was dangerous going forward a couple of times, but Molde struggled to play to the biggest chances.
But it came two minutes after the break.
- 1–1: Eirik Hestad lays the ball out 18 meters to Kristian Eriksen. The Molde striker wide-sided the ball into the corner via a Sarpsborg player.
The Molde joy did not last long.
Soon the stage was set for a pattern counterattack. Signed away team.
- 1–2: Again, Stefan Johansen hit the decisive pass. Sondre Ørjasæter got all the space he could want – and put the ball in the score.
But 25 minutes before the end, the joy was over for the dribbler from Oslo. Ørjasæter received his second yellow card and was sent off. The Sarpsborg winger was speeding forward with the ball, but got a bad touch. It ended with Ørjasæter extending his foot forward and hitting Eirik Haugan hard.
– It is ugly, concluded Torp in NRK.
Shortly afterwards, Sarpsborg’s new maestro, Stefan Johansen, had to leave after a bang.
Molde’s playmaker Magnus Wolff Eikrem came on to take advantage of the advantage. He was close to equalizing 20 minutes before the end. Then came the equalizer.
- 2–2: An Eikrem corner was headed backwards into the box from Kristian Eriksen. At the back post Anders Hagelskjær stood ready to push the ball into the goal.
Now Eikrem was at work. Molde soon got a free kick just outside the 16-metre area.
- 3–2: Magnus Wolff Eikrem showed off his magnificent right foot. But on the inside, he screwed the free kick hard into the far corner.
– Pure class, said NRK-Torp.
Now Molde rolled over Sarpsborg.
- 4–2: Eikrem directed again. The ball went out to Mathias Fjørtoft Løvik on the left. Eirik Hestad took care of the post.
It was game, set, match.
Molde are ready for the quarter-finals of the cup.
