Popular South Korean girl band NewJeans recently hit headlines, courting a lot of controversy over shooting for a project on the streets in Taipei, Taiwan. A couple of pictures and videos of the group surfaced on the internet showing them filming on the streets. While the pictures instantly went viral, an alleged staff member was also seen commenting on the related posts, asking fans to take down the pictures of the “secret project.”

However, this didn’t go well with a lot of NewJeans fans, who were seen calling out the staff for their behaviour. Besides that, many eyewitnesses also made similar claims against the staff. “NewJeans came to Taiwan for shooting, but they didn’t have the proper permits for road closures. They only had a temporary permit, but then the staff berated passersby,” a user wrote.

This has sparked a heated debate on social media, leaving loyal fans hurt and adding criticism against NewJeans and its staff. Accusations of improper permits for road closures were also leveled against them.

NewJeans reacts to ongoing controversy

Amid the ongoing debate and controversy, NewJeans agency ADOR has finally responded to all of it. Issuing a statement, the agency has clarified that the accusations made against them were “false” and that the actual incident was “misinterpreted.”

They also explained that the team had received official permission from the Taipei City Hall and the police force for the shooting. “The accusations that are being spread online are not true. We received official permission from the Taipei City Hall and the police force to film. We conducted our filming within the scope of the permission that we obtained,” the statement read as obtained by Koreaboo.

NewJeans on accusations of staff misconduct

Reacting to the allegations leveled against the staff members of the agency, ADOR explained that the staff politely asked people to delete the pictures and that everyone cooperated with no cases of loud voices or disrespect at the site.

“At the time, our staff had a sign asking people not to take any pictures, but there were people taking pictures within the area that we were asking for no filming. In these cases, our staff politely asked for the photos to be deleted, and everyone who was asked cooperated. There were no cases of loud voices or disrespect at the filming site,” it continued.
