With today’s news that the iPad and iPadOS are also affected (from Apple’s point of view, not the customer’s) by the DMA law to the EU, Epic has announced that Fortnite is also coming to Apple’s tablet.

Launching on iPhone “soon” – iPads later this year

“Remember Fortnite on iOS? How about bringing it back. Later this year, Fortnite will return to Europe on iOS through the Epic Games Store,” the company announced in January after it was announced that the DMA legislation would go live. They were absolutely correct not: it does not apply to Europe, but to EU member states.

Today they followed up with another happy message from their eyes and the eyes of the players: “Today the European Commission said that iPads must also comply with DMA. We’re going all out to bring Fortnite to iPhones soon and iPads this year!”

“The EU believes that the iPad is dominant enough that the product must be included in the DMA legislation. This means that iPadOS must offer users alternative app stores for residents of the 27 member states. We also expect that means users get a choice of browser at start-up, and that third-party browsers can use their own engine to draw and display web pages”, we reported earlier today.
