Norwegian police have so far in 2024 initiated investigations into 17 murder cases with a total of 22 victims.

* 1 January: Elin Nordhei Bordi (46), Terje Åsmund Nordhei (46) and a 19-year-old man are found dead in a home in Sørfold in Nordland. Police believe the teenager, who was the son and stepson of the two adults respectively, killed them before taking his own life. He is also charged with the attempted murder of his eleven-year-old sister.

* 2 January: 30-year-old Rahavy Varatharajan is found shot dead in a car in Elverum. A 32-year-old man, with whom the woman had a short-term relationship, is found very seriously injured in the same car. The man later dies of his injuries, but is charged with murder. The Bureau of Police Affairs is investigating whether the Oslo police district breached its duty of protection towards the woman.

* 2 January: A man in his 50s is found dead in a home in Stavern in Larvik municipality. His partner, a woman in her 40s, is accused of murder and wanted internationally. This request is later withdrawn, and the basis for the charge is weakened. After several months of searching, the woman is found dead by a walker by a path in Larvik on 13 March.

* 6 January: Latvian Laura Putane (35) is found dead at Fefor Høyfjellshotell in Nord-Fron municipality in Gudbrandsdalen. A man in his 30s from Serbia has been arrested and charged with murder. Both worked at the hotel.

* 7 January: 33-year-old Tina Milena Solberg is found dead in a burnt-out car on Blomøy in Øygarden municipality outside Bergen. A man with whom she has two children in common is arrested and charged with murder. He pleads guilty.

* 9 January: A man in his 30s is found lifeless and with stab wounds outside a home in Laksevåg in Bergen. The man is taken to hospital, but is pronounced dead a short time later. Another man in his 30s is arrested and charged with murder. The man does not plead guilty, but links himself to the incident.

* 23 January: The police respond to an incident in a home in Skogbygda in Nes in Romerike. Katrine Nordli Korslund (30), Victoria Nordli Korslund (24) and Emily Nordli Andresen (11 months) are found dead, in addition to a 65-year-old man. The police believe the 65-year-old killed his daughters and one grandson before taking his own life. One of those killed was employed in the East police district, which means that the Oslo police district is responsible for the investigation.

* 26 January: 75-year-old Aina Hynne is found badly injured in Kirkenær in Grue municipality. She later dies from her injuries. A man in his 30s has been arrested and charged with murder.

* 27 January: A woman in her 40s is charged with complicity in murder after the burnt remains of Ole Andreas Sønstvedt (37) were found in a lavvo on her farm in Løten in Innlandet. The 37-year-old, who lived on the farm, was reported missing on 12 January. The woman was arrested on 24 January, and was then charged with complicity in deprivation of liberty. The woman denies criminal guilt.

* 31 January: A 48-year-old man is charged with grievous bodily harm after a man in his 60s is found dead in Drammen. The 48-year-old was found injured in a neighboring apartment. Findings in the preliminary autopsy report lead to the charge being expanded to a charge of murder.

* 4 February: A woman in her 20s and a man in his 30s are found injured in an apartment in Fana in Bergen. The woman is pronounced dead on the way to hospital, and the man is charged with having killed her. The man and woman were married and had three children of kindergarten age together. It was one of the children who reported the incident to the police.

* 24 February: Oslo doctor John Tarald Haugen (63) dies in hospital after being stabbed in Vardø the night before. The man’s same-age spouse is charged with grievous bodily harm resulting in death. One week later, the charge is changed to murder.

* 29 February: A woman in her 40s is arrested and charged with murder after an elderly man is found dead in an apartment in Sandakerveien in Oslo. The deceased is the woman’s father. The woman has been forcibly admitted to hospital and has not made a decision on the charges.

* 1 March: A man in his 20s is arrested and charged with murder after his younger brother is found dead in a home in Lørenskog. The man is detained and linked to the crime scene.

* 14 March: A man in his 40s is found shot in a holiday home in Nord-Odal late in the evening. A man in his 30s was arrested in the case, but released after the suspicion against him was weakened.

* 23 March: Four people are found dead in a detached house at Torpo in Ål municipality in Hallingdal. The police believe that one of them killed the other three before the person took his own life.

* April 1: A man is arrested in an apartment on Grünerløkka in Oslo after a woman is found dead in the same place. The case is being investigated as a murder. The relationship between the dead woman and the man who has been arrested is not yet known.
