The Rabbitohs have snatched an 18-12 lead over the Bulldogs following a chaotic start to the second half.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs have copped two blows with Josh Addo-Carr ruled out due to a concussion and Kurtis Morrin sin-binned for a dangerous tackle on Cameron Murray.

The Rabbitohs struck first after a spirited start from both sides with two tries in four minutes — one of which was scored by marquee recruit Jack Wighton.

But the Bulldogs hit back to narrow the gap by four after their star-studded left edge combined to set up Matt Burton.

They backed it up with a stunning piece of play — that Fox League Commentator Warren Smith likened to a bit of “backyard footy” — in which former Rabbitoh Blake Taaffe put up a perfectly-weighted kick for Connor Tracey to score in the corner.

The Dogs’ joy came crashing down second before half time when Addo-Carr copped the hip of Latrell Mitchell in a tackle and was knocked out.

It looked like they were going to lose Jacob Preston also to a head knock in the second half except the workhorse second-rower miraculously passed his HIA.

The momentum swung early in the second half when Wighton bagged his second of the night before the Rabbitohs added an extra two points courtesy of a penalty goal.
