Opel Grandland: – Could this be Opel’s best seller?

--

(Elbil24): Opel has not managed to leave a very large footprint among Norwegian electric car buyers yet, where the Ampera-e has become the most registered model with just under 4,000 cars sold in total. Secondly, there are around 3,000 electric Corsa on Norwegian roads and around 2,500 Mokka examples.

What they have in common is that all three are relatively small cars.

Now the importer, Bertel O. Steen, hopes that the new Grandland can assert itself in the market. This SUV goes straight into the very attractive C-segment where most of the best sellers are located, with a length of 4.65 metres.

In other words, Opel has made the car a full 17.5 longer than the previous edition. At the same time, the new Grandland is also 6.4 centimeters wider and 1.9 centimeters higher. The wheelbase is roughly 278 centimeters.

70 miles

As one of the Stellantis companies, along with Peugeot, Citroën, Jeep, DS, Fiat and Alfa Romeo, among others, it comes as no surprise that Opel’s latest is built on the STLA Medium platform.

It is the same as on the new Peugeot E-3008, and the platform can house batteries of up to 98 kWh.

For Opel, this means a range of up to 700 km on the Grandland, which should make range anxiety a rare problem.

Unique headlights

A design element that distinguishes the Grandland from most are the so-called “3D-Vizor” lights in the front, with an illuminated Opel logo in the middle.

The headlights actually consist of no less than 51,200 different LED diodes, which according to the press release will provide “class-leading” light on dark winter days.

These owners are most satisfied with the lights

Opel also highlights the shock absorbers in the press release, which are equipped with so-called frequency-selective damping. This means that it has a secondary hydraulic circuit in the damper chamber to mechanically adapt the movement in relation to the frequency at which the damper moves, and should then be a solution that makes the car feel both sporty and comfortable at the same time.

Spacious inside

The fact that Grandland has grown also means that there is more space inside. A unique solution will be what Opel calls a “pixel box” – a transparent box that the mobile phone sits in while it is being charged wirelessly, and on the back of the front seats there will also be storage pockets specifically designed for mobile phones.

With the rear seats folded down, there is room for 1,641 liters of luggage, although there is currently no information on the liter size with people in the back.

For those who want to focus on the road, there is a separate Pure mode that minimizes the information on the screens and the head-up display.

New Grandland takes several ideas from Opel’s “Experimental” concept that was shown last autumn, including luminous “Opel” letters on the back of the car:

The car is expected in Norway towards the end of the year, but there are currently no details on price and equipment levels.

– The new Grandland is a milestone for Opel. It is designed and developed in Rüsselsheim, and built in Eisenach. It will take its place in the important C-SUV segment, and together with the new Astra Electric and the upcoming B-SUV Frontera will complete Opel’s electric model range in Norway, says brand manager for Opel at Bertel O. Steen, Reidar Holtedahl.
