With the success of Fallout and the recent success of video game adaptations, many gamers are wondering which of their favorite games might be made into a movie next.
At Blizzard, Rod Fergusson, who heads the series, seems to believe that Diablo has great potential if it translates to the big or small screen. In a conversation with Windows Central, Fergusson answered the following when asked if he thought that Diablo would be suitable as a film:
“Yeah, I definitely think it could work. That’s one of the things I really like about Diablo as an IP is that it has themes that you can relate to, because it’s The High Heavens versus The Burning Hells, and the idea of good versus evil. I think it’s very transferable to something like that. I wish I could talk to you about it today. But just in terms of the general idea, I think that can work? I certainly think so.”
Diablo is already known for its cutscenes, so maybe it has potential as a show. A potential problem is translating the gameplay so that the series feels like a proper homage, but there’s definitely enough history for the showrunners to tackle.
