Landfall Publishing – best known for games like Totally Accurate Battle Simulator – came calling on April 1st with a bang. The Swedish publisher released the new game Content Warning – free for 24 hours – which led to huge traffic and server chaos.

Via Steam, the developer team, which consists of Skog, Zorro, Wilnyl, Philip and thePetHen, says that a whopping 6.2 million Steam users picked up Content Warning during the free day. Many also fired up the game, with a peak of 204,000 concurrent players on Tuesday afternoon (according to SteamDB).

It all went far beyond the creators’ expectations, to say the least. The servers didn’t have a chance to keep the boil, and so far players have support for several problems. The five-man team says on Steam that it is working on solutions, and the goal was to have things a little more in order on Wednesday morning.

Content Warning is somewhat similar to the horror game Lethal Company – which itself became very popular after the “early access” launch last autumn – only with a slightly nicer twist. Here, four players will run around with a video camera and film horrors in disgusting surroundings, with the hope of becoming famous on SpöökTube.

Between two and four friends can experience the game together. Voice chat is included in the game, to encourage as much banter and fun as possible.

Content Warning is now no longer free. Those who did not manage to get up during the first 24 hours will therefore have to shell out NOK 89 if they want to see what all the fuss is about.
