The Swedish skiing enthusiast reveals this in an interview with the newspaper Expressen. There, Karlsson says that the plan is to set up already in 2027. As a 27-year-old.

– Yes, that’s what I told myself. I thought I told you too? She says to the newspaper.

Likes deadlines

When Expressen’s journalist answers that question in the negative, the cross-country star continues.

– Right. But I like having deadlines. That’s when I work best. It’s always been like that, ever since I went to school. It’s a bit about your own motivation. To feel that what I do does not last forever, and to make the most of it. That I will do everything I can in these three years, says Karlsson.

The 24-year-old then acknowledges that nothing is set in stone. She will not bombastically state that she will retire from cross-country skiing in three years. But that is still how the plan looks now.

– There is more to life

Karlsson responds as follows to Expressen’s question about why she wants to give up so early.

– There is more to life. I want to do so much – even if I don’t quite know what I want to do afterwards.

In 2027, she will fight for medals during the WC on her home ground in Falun. It will be a perfect end to the career. Before that time there are the WC in Trondheim and the Olympics in Milan/Cortina.

Karlsson has the benefit of taking an individual gold in both the Olympic and World Cup contexts. A World Championship gold in relay is so far the fait accompli next to a long series of other medals.
