On the field Roy Keane was a hard house and after the end of his career he has shown the same tactics as an expert at Sky Sports.

Hardly a week passes between each time the Irishman shoots from the hip and old club Manchester United in particular is put through the paces.

However, that does not mean that others go free. Recently, Keane “cocked his revolver” and fired at West Ham’s Michail Antonio.

The expert criticized that Antonio has other jobs going on, next to football. The power forward has, among other things, his own podcast and it is precisely this kind of activity that Keane believes is not appropriate for someone who makes a living playing football at the top level.

– I think it can distract him, especially right after a loss. The next day you record a new episode and everyone is laughing and enjoying themselves. I mean you shouldn’t laugh for a week or two after losing a game,” Keane said, according to The Mirror.

Antonio has had a podcast with Newcastle player Callum Wilson since 2021. Fulham profile Tom Cairney has also gradually become part of the programme.

In a recent episode of the podcast, Antonio fires back at Keane for the comments he made.

– It’s a dinosaur mentality. When Keane himself was playing, everyone, managers, players and fans, said you should focus on football. Go to bed at night with a football in your arms. The wife takes care of the children, you are not to play with them. Think football. That’s how he played.

– But time has shown that many of those who played with him have gone bankrupt, because they only thought about football, and that only. Today, it is also natural for players to focus on football, but you can also do other things on the side, says Antonio.

He points to things like business, fashion and music.

– There are players who are rappers now. People are doing other things, says the West Ham striker.

– The reason why people struggle

The power plug points out that he has a lot of free time, and that it is therefore natural that he has other hobbies.

Furthermore, he points out that it is not healthy for the players to go completely underground after a loss.

– You can’t go around being sad for two weeks, because already in a week there is another battle. It is meant that you should forget what happened last weekend, if you lost, and do better next weekend, says the striker.

– That is actually the reason why many players struggle with mental health problems. Because people tell them to be sad for two weeks, because they “took a beating” at the weekend. No, you handle it. You are sad when you go home that evening, says the 34-year-old.

Antonio has struggled with injuries this season and only has six goals from 28 appearances in total.

The Jamaica international has been at West Ham since joining from Nottingham Forest in 2015.

In a total of 304 games for the London club, there are 81 complete hits for the veteran.
