With the defeat, Leeds are four points behind Leicester with just one game to play. Thus, Leicester is ready for PL football, while Leeds must hope that Ipswich stumbles in the rush for direct promotion. Ipswich is one point behind Leeds, but has two games to spare against the whites.

Leeds ended up 0-2 down after just over 20 minutes in the away game against QPR on Friday. Ilias Chair and Lucas Andersen ensured that the hosts gained a solid advantage. And QPR didn’t give up there. They continued to press their promotion-chasing visitors and in the second half Lyndon Dykes and Sam Field settled the result with their goals.

Leicester were relegated last year and gained an early grip on direct promotion. But as the Blues struggled in the late winter, Leeds and Ipswich crept closer. Recently, the “foxes” have found their way back to form and have taken the necessary points that now qualify for promotion.

Ipswich have not played in the top division since the 2001/02 season and this season they can achieve the feat of being promoted two years in a row. The club played in League One (level three) in the 2022/23 season.

Leeds, like Leicester, were relegated last year.
