Arne Slot has confirmed that he wants the Liverpool job and it is reported that the Reds are in the process of agreeing a compensation deal with Feyenoord that will see them let go of their manager.
It seems that it is only a matter of time before we get confirmation of who will succeed Jürgen Klopp and be Liverpool’s manager next season.
At Friday’s press conference, Klopp was asked about it.
– I have not read anything, but have been told by Tony (Barrett) that Arne has said some things. I don’t know anything about it and I’m not involved in the process, so that’s clear, says Klopp.
– If it is him, I like that he wants to take on the job. That he is desperate to get it, “let’s go for it!”, and is excited. I definitely like the way his teams play football, he continues..
– Sounds like a good match
Klopp does not know the 45-year-old personally, but says he hears good things. His assistant Pep Lijnders has been referred to as a good friend of his compatriot.
– All the things I hear about him are that he is a great guy. I know someone who knows him, but I don’t know him yet. I’ve been told he’s a really nice guy, so I like that.
– A good coach, nice guy, looking forward to taking the job if he is the solution. I am more than happy that it is not me who decides, but all that sounds good, says Klopp.
And if something positive should come out of Liverpool’s poor form at the end of this year’s season, it is that it makes working conditions easier for the next man…
– It is the best job in the world, the best club in the world. Now it also helps that it doesn’t look like we’re going to end with a big upswing, so there’s room for improvement. It’s a great job, a great team with fantastic people, says Klopp.
