Significant increase for Norwegian in April

--

In April, Norwegian had 1.9 million passengers, while Widerøe had just over 315,000 passengers. In total, just over 2.2 million flew with Norwegian Group in April.

Compared to last year, there was a marked increase of 13 and 28 per cent respectively for Norwegian and Widerøe. At the time, Norwegian had 1.7 million passengers, while Widerøe had 246,000 – a total of 1.95 million.

The capacity (ASK) was 3,155 million seat kilometres, up 18 per cent from the same period last year. Actual passenger traffic (RPK) was 2,533 million seat kilometres, an increase of 14 per cent from April 2023. The cabin factor for April was 80.3 per cent, down three percentage points, partly due to the early Easter which this year mainly fell in March.

The airline operated an average of 81 flights in April, up from 73 in March, to prepare for the summer programme. Regularity was negatively affected in April, largely due to the problems with air control in Norwegian airspace which caused major delays in the whole of southern Norway a few weeks ago.

The unit income including additional income related to flights is estimated at NOK 0.65, down 10 per cent from the same period last year. In April, Norwegian operated with a regularity of 98.8 per cent. Punctuality, the proportion of flights departing within 15 minutes of the scheduled time, was 81.3 per cent, down two percentage points from April last year.

New routes

April was a month of new destinations for Norwegian. A total of nine new routes had their first departure in April. The summer program includes a total of 47 new routes.

– In particular, we are very pleased to deliver an improved offer with increased capacity in Denmark, our second largest market. Danes can enjoy a total of 17 new routes. In addition, the figures for Widerøe for April are encouraging, and it is good to see that the hard work from the Widerøe team is bearing fruit, says Geir Karlsen, CEO of Norwegian.

For Widerøe, capacity (ASK) increased in April to 177 million seat kilometres, an increase of 13 per cent compared to April last year. The actual passenger traffic (RPK) was 113 million seat kilometres, while the cabin factor was 64.1 per cent, up 6 percentage points.
