Both civilians and soldiers are said to have been killed in airstrikes against the city of Aleppo in Syria. This is stated by the Syrian Ministry of Defense early Friday.
The statement states that several Israeli airstrikes hit areas around Aleppo at 01:45 local time.
There are somewhat different reports about how many have been killed and who they are. The Syrian authorities have so far not provided any figures or more details.
But the AFP news agency cites the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) monitoring service. They report that 36 soldiers have been killed.
Reuters writes that 33 civilians and military have been killed. In addition, five Hezbollah members are also said to have been killed, i.e. 38 in total. They cite two security sources.
Both Reuters and AFP have tried to get a comment from the Israeli military. They reply that they will not comment to foreign media.
The Israeli newspapers Jerusalem Post and Haaretz mention the attacks, but have no comment from the authorities either.
Possible multiple attacks
SOHR writes that the attack on Aleppo targeted a weapons warehouse near the airport in Aleppo.
There are also reports of drone attacks against Idlib.
Israel has attacked targets in Syria hundreds of times since the civil war began in 2011. And it has happened more often since the war between Israel and Hamas began in October.
Both Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed ones Hezbollah has been the target of attacks. Israel says it will not allow its archenemy Iran to gain a foothold in Syria.
