A few days ago, the 80-year-old frontman Mick Jagger warmed up with a trip to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. The concert at NRG Stadium will be the first of a total of 18 in the USA (and one in Vancouver in Canada) that the Rolling Stones will play until 17 July.

The British music magazine NME warmed up in a different way – with an interview with the Stones’ original bassist Bill Wyman. He left the band in 1993 after over 30 years.

That is, he had announced that he was putting the bass on the shelf already in 1991. However, the rest of the band did not take it seriously. It wasn’t until two years later, when they were going on tour again, that they realized he wasn’t going to join.

– I had had enough. That was half my life, and I figured I had other things I wanted to do. I wanted to do archaeology, write books, exhibit pictures, play cricket, he says.

Wyman used to read about ancient cultures while the band was on tour. He also reveals that he is a devoted stamp collector, and also collects Roman coins.

Since then, he has occasionally made guest appearances for the Rolling Stones, which today consists of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood. They recently released the album “Hackney Diamonds”, where Wyman plays bass on one track.
