Lars (58) and Filip (15) missed the plane crash

ROTTERDAM (Dagbladet): In Europe’s largest port in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, a search is now underway for a father and a son from Bergen.

The two are Lars Haukeland (58) and Filip Haukeland (15), the West police district informs in a press release on Thursday.

Wants peace

Dagbladet has been in contact with the relatives’ assistance lawyer, May Britt Løvik, who states that the family wants peace.

In addition to this, she does not wish to comment on the matter further.

The police also emphasize that the family wants peace and as little attention as possible.

– Will be greatly missed

Filip was an active volleyball player in TIF Viking, where he played for the boys 17 team. He is described by the general manager of the sports association, Roger Gjelsvik, as a promising talent who was well-liked by many.

His father, Lars, also contributed to the team, including organizing.

– Both will be greatly missed in Viking and in the team, says Gjelsvik.

His thoughts go first and foremost to those closest to him.

At the same time, the association works to follow up teammates and others in the association who were close to Filip.

– We do what we can to support them in this time, which of course is heavy.

Large search operation

The small plane the two boarded took off from Bergen on Sunday morning and has allegedly crashed in the port areas Hoek van Holland. A patrol boat found a flying wing in a detour to the main canal Caland on Sunday night. The discovery was reported as suspicious – and a major search operation was launched.

It rained heavily and visibility was extremely poor on Sunday, the general manager of the control center for the port of Rotterdam, Jan Kunst, has previously informed Dagbladet. The plane was also not detected on the radar of the control center.

Strong current

What may explain that the plane was not found in the canal or at sea, is the strong current in the canal.

– If something disappears, it usually pops up a week later in the center of Rotterdam or on a beach, Kunst has stated.

On Sunday, seven police and patrol boats were sent out to search the area. The boats ran together in width to cover the largest possible area, according to Kunst.
