NRK’s reviewer Espen Borge was not gracious on Monday morning when the coming weekend’s MGP contribution was announced.

“The lamest song of all time. I can’t do this, ass. I want to quit as a music reviewer forever,” said the NRK critic about Pettersen’s contribution “Masterpiece”.

Atle Pettersen (33) himself says that he is old enough that the slaughter “goes perfectly well”.

Atle Pettersen has become a father

Atle Pettersen (32) and Cathrine Eide (32) have had a daughter. This is her name.

– This is a bit of a “name of the game”. MGP is a music competition that is set up so that people will think a lot, so you have to steel yourself for everything. Sure it’s not the coolest thing to get a roll of the dice, but it doesn’t bother me terribly. It is possible that there is something or other that he has not caught, says Pettersen about the negative NRK review.

– Then I choose to focus on the inbox and other feedback that I have received, because they have warmed, he says.

Atle Pettersen makes his debut in Melodi Grand Prix and is also pre-qualified for the grand final in February.

The focus is also on Atle Pettersen on Saturday’s semi-final and his contribution “Masterpiece”. It is about the daughter Demi that he and his wife Cathrine Eide (33) had thirteen months ago.

– It’s a very personal song, and for a long time I was very unsure whether I should dare to play it. I have a not entirely uncomplicated relationship with my own father and for a long time I wasn’t quite sure whether I wanted to step into the role of father myself, says Pettersen.

– Having a child is the greatest thing you can experience, at the same time you become terribly afraid that something will happen. It’s a big upheaval.

In retrospect, Atle Pettersen has not regretted for a second that they accepted his little miracle. Little Demi, who just now gave her father a little bit of a fever, has changed his life.

– Yes, you are forced to make some choices – self-reflect a bit and decide what type of person you want to be. I used to love going out on a longer tour, but now I want to go back home just after being away on Friday and Saturday. On the Christmas tour last year, I was away for two weeks. It wasn’t much fun, he admits.

Atle Pettersen is looking forward to Saturday’s semi-final and believes that with “Masterpiece” he will present a comprehensive story from the stage that will captivate people.

But he knows it will be tough.

– Nothing is as obvious as it may seem, but if I manage to make it to the final in Trondheim – which of course I hope – I will face a tough heat. I think it will be very open, says Pettersen and recalls what happened when he was in the MGP last time, as pre-qualified for the final in 2021.

– Everyone thought KEiiNO was going to win, but then along came a guy named TIX who also wanted a trip to Eurovision…
