The government wants to honor Shabana Rehman by allowing the funeral to take place at the state’s expense. Rehman’s relatives have agreed to this.

For the occasion, access to the City Hall from Oslo municipality has been granted.

The ceremony will take place next Tuesday at 12, reports the Human-Ethical Association.

The popular comedian, writer and public debater died on 29 December after being diagnosed with cancer early in the year. She was 46 years old.

Will check on the guests

The town hall opens its doors at 10.30, and the organizer will carry out an access check for guests. There is no written registration.

This is how the ceremony will be

Otherwise, it is recommended not to bring large bags or bags. Flowers for the ceremony cannot be brought on arrival at the Town Hall.

Secretary General of the Human-Ethical Association, Trond Enger, informs VG that Christian Lomsdalen, chairman of the association, will be the funeral speaker.

– The ceremony will be humanistic, with an emphasis on Shabana’s life and work, says Enger.

The coffin will be present at the ceremony, which ends with the coffin being carried out to the car.

– There will be a number of speakers connected to Shabana’s life, as well as several musical and artistic elements. But who will be responsible for these is not yet ready for publication. says Enger.

The ceremony in the town hall is expected to last up to an hour and a half.

Two ministers participate

Guests are encouraged to arrive early, as a large turnout is expected. All guests must be inside the Town Hall by 11.30 am. Official guests arrive after at 11.30 am.

From the government, Culture and Equality Minister Anette Trettebergstuen and Labor and Inclusion Minister Marte Mjøs Persen are participating, the Ministry of Culture informs in a press release to NTB.

The official ceremony ends in the town hall.

A separate memorial page has been created on the Saga Funeral Agency’s website.

– Irreplaceable

«It is with deep sadness that I have to announce that our much-loved irreplaceable sister, daughter, aunt, friend, centerpiece, cheerleader and pride passed away peacefully this morning», Shabana Rehman’s brother, Shakeel Rehman, wrote when he announced his sister’s passing on Facebook this Christmas.

Rehman becomes the first person with an immigrant background to be buried at the state’s expense.

Shakeel Rehman tells Nettavisen that it is a very important recognition that the state honors Shabana by paying for the funeral.

– Shabana was a national hero and pioneer in promoting freedom for the individual in a diverse society, where certain groups are deprived of their freedom due to negative social control, he says.

Burial at state expense is an award granted by the government. Around 100 people have been buried at the state’s expense since the scheme was introduced in 1881.
