Agricultural settlement, Agricultural negotiations | Newspaper: Believes the agricultural settlement can be voted down in the Storting

--

Last week, the state offered the farmers NOK 2.62 billion in this year’s agricultural settlement. This gives an income increase of NOK 70,000 per man-year, which will close the income gap to other occupational groups by NOK 45,000.

Agriculture’s claim was NOK 3.9 billion from the state, or NOK 82,900 per man-year.

An editorial in Trønder-Avisa states that the offer should have been higher.

– The government has long claimed that they are investing in agriculture, and have shown on several occasions that they mean it. But in the situation agriculture is in today, after several years of very challenging economics and explosive cost growth, the requirement to cover two-thirds of the income gap should have been met in the state’s offer. It would have contributed to creating a future belief in the industry. Unfortunately, the state’s offer today does not, they write.

Uncertain in the Storting

At the same time, they have faith in the negotiations, which will continue until 16 May.

– With the Center Party in charge of agricultural policy in government, it should certainly be possible to approach the requirement to close the income gap by two-thirds in the negotiations.

At the same time, they believe that problems may arise in the Storting, when the agreement is to be processed there. The reasons for this are the noise surrounding the treatment of the Storting report on increased farmer income and increased self-sufficiency.

– Although there is no tradition to vote down a negotiated agricultural agreement, the result may be different this year. The Conservatives have already been on the field and made it clear that they think the state has gone too far, writes the newspaper.

More money

In the end, they conclude that more money must be on the table before 16 May.

– They know very well how critical the situation in agriculture is at the moment, and if they are to meet the goal of increasing self-sufficiency from 40 to 50 percent, which is one of the main goals in a troubled world, more money must be on the table in the days leading up to May 16.
