Low threshold – tour offer Perletur and Stolpejacht expect another record year in 2024 – NRK Troms and Finnmark

--

The low-threshold offer Stolpejakt, where you can find and register almost 1,600 posts in 200 of the country’s municipalities, already had a record year last year.

At that time, there were just over 200,000 hikers who used pole hunting.

– Last year we had 18 million post visits. It is a new record. Although there were fewer users than in the corona era, a new record was set for the number of post visits, says chairman Harald Bakke.

He says that last year the pole hunters walked a distance equivalent to 150 times around the equator.

Bakke expects another record year in 2024.

– We expect that there will be 220,000 users and 20 million post visits.

Every year, almost 1,600 poles are put up in 200 municipalities in Norway. According to Harald Bakke, 5 percent of Norway’s population go Stolpe hunting.

App can get more people on their way

In Finnmark, they notice great interest in pearl tours. Last year, 7,700 participants completed over 157,000 trips.

– I think we will get even more participants this year.

That’s what Hugo Tingvoll, general manager of the Finnmark Outdoor Council, says about the Perletur tour box trim.

The low-threshold offer is being organized for the ninth time, and has become more and more popular in recent years. From Thursday, walkers can once again register a completed walk at almost 600 walking destinations across Finnmark.

– We have had an increase every single year since the start in 2016. There was a slight decrease after corona, but then we have had a nice increase after that.

New this year is that it is possible to register the trips in a separate app.

– I think that the app means that we will get more participants, and not least that even more people will register the trips.

Competitive instinct

Theresa Knudsen was one of those who used the low-threshold Perletur offer the most last year. With 660 trips, she had the most registered trips in Alta municipality last year.

– In the beginning I just went to go, I love being outside. But then a competitive instinct was awakened that could not be extinguished.

She thinks Perletur is a very nice offer.

– There is something for everyone, and it gets people out into the fresh air.

Knudsen intends to do all the tours in Alta again this year, but does not have the goal of being number one this year.

– But if someone takes up the competition with me, I’ll join, she says.

Popular tours

Harald Bakke believes there are several reasons why low-threshold tour offers such as Stolpejacht and Perletur have become so popular.

– Firstly, it is free, which is very important, and secondly, it is easily accessible.

Bakke also believes that it is not organized exercise, but something that can be done exactly when it suits, contributes to its popularity.

– We get a lot of feedback that people are very happy to have gone to their own municipality, because they get to places they haven’t been before, says Bakke.
