Traffic, Weaving | These county roads are getting new asphalt – have increased the pot by 50 million

– The county council has prioritized the county roads and has chosen to add an extra NOK 50 million on top of the planned sections that were budgeted for, says county councilor for transport, Marianne Dobak Kvensjø in a press release.

– Great price growth in recent years means that we get significantly less for our money now than a few years ago. We have still managed to find room to pave 100 kilometres.

A total of just under NOK 200 million will be spent on asphalting the county roads in 2024. Many of the roads being asphalted this year are continuations of stretches that were started last year. County councilor Bjørn Larsen is satisfied that the asphalt budget has been significantly increased.

– It is particularly important for our trade routes. As is well known, large quantities of salmon go from the coast to the European markets, says Larsen in the press release, adding:

– Every salmon that is driven out of Nordland starts its journey on a county road. Then it is of course important that the standard of the roads does not hinder the enormous value creation that takes place in Nordland.

Big backlog

County councilor for finance and organisation, Anette Amalie Åbodsvik Bang, points out that in tight budgets, it is important to prioritize maintenance of county roads anyway.

– The need is great. We see that the roads throughout Nordland have gained significant momentum from the telecom and the telecom solution this spring. The backlog of maintenance is large. We must do what we can financially to take in some of this backlog, she says in the press release.

Preparatory work for next year’s asphalt season will also take place this summer. County councilor Marianne Dobak Kvensjø urges motorists to be patient.

– Overall, there will be a lot of asphalt work and road work throughout Nordland. Drive carefully and be patient. The work on the roads is for the benefit of all motorists, and for us to have an acceptable road standard, also from a traffic safety perspective, concludes county councilor Marianne Dobak Kvensjø.
