There were long queues from opening to closing time: the people of Dram went out of their homes to relive the sausage nostalgia.
THE DRAMA: The fabled sausage kiosk in the (Kobbervik) valley rose from the dead on Saturday afternoon in what would prove to be an immensely popular stunt under the auspices of the Drammen Pølseforening.
Around 1,000 people had previously registered their interest on Facebook, and that may well correspond to the number who stopped by during the day. Perhaps an unofficial sausage sales record was set in the good weather with 23 degrees – and that despite the confirmation weekend and many absent from the regular “congregation” in the sausage association.
According to the sausage association, 1,600 sausages of various varieties had been sold until the kiosk closed at 19:00. And a not inconsiderable number of glass colas.
– There has been no lack of attendance. People have come from far away, from Skien and Notodden. It’s really incredible, says sausage general Jørgen Styrmoe to DRM24 when we stopped by at the very end of the day for a little mood report.
Migration from far and near
Happy, but tired after a day where he and his subjects have been “hanging by the strap” continuously to get away from a perpetual queue of sausage-loving Drammen and other believers on a pilgrimage to the mecca of Wieners. If we are to believe the reports from the “field” along the way, people have been queuing for an hour to secure the famous Dalen sausage. Equally cheerful and patient.
But the sausage association was well prepared and had provided sufficient raw materials to take care of the huge demand.
– The only thing we ran out of was crispy fried onions. It took 12 kilos, notes Styrmoe.
– After all, this must be a life team also in the longer term, there will probably be a repeat with such success?
– It is clear that based on the turnover today, one would think that it was possible to stay open. But Dpend, which owns the property, probably has other plans for the area. And the sausage kiosk itself has probably seen its best days in terms of lack of maintenance. But that there will be more activities under the auspices of the sausage association, there will be, says a secretive Styrmoe.
Last time Dalen Kiosk reopened after several years of closure, 1,000 sausages were sold in two days. Read more about the event at the time here.
PS: The profit after the weekend’s hot dog success goes unabated to Rett Fram Opplevelser.
