– Everyone can become a support contact, says Marit Kjerrengvoll Ekle, who is head of Organized Leisure in the Culture Unit.
– You don’t need any special education, but interest and respect for other people is important, she continues.
A support contact is linked to one person who needs extra help to participate in cultural and leisure activities. Both children, young people and adults who need assistance can get support contact. We therefore need support contacts of all ages, and with different interests and experiences.
A support contact assignment is usually three hours a week, and you should be at least 18 years old. The support contact must not help with practical tasks such as shopping, washing or visiting the doctor.
For the support contact, helping others to have meaningful free time with others is the most important thing. The activities can vary from assisting with participation in ordinary leisure activities to trying out new activities, participating together in various events, trips to Pirbadet, tour groups, the library or the cinema.
– It can be an advantage that the support contact and the person receiving the service have common interests, and therefore we want those who want to become a support contact to tell about themselves and their own leisure interests in the application, says Kjerringvoll Ekle.
