A 175-year-long tradition in Larvik may disappear. Borgermusikken was founded in 1849.

In the Bøkeskogen during the summer months, people from Larvik can eat their Sunday breakfast while Borgermusikken plays. Many have attended the breakfasts, as this is truly a tradition. Borgermusikken is one of the country’s oldest public orchestras. We are talking about a long larvik history.

In the main committee for culture, environment and industry, the Labor Party proposed the following: “NoK 150,000 will be allocated as support for the preservation of Borgermusikken. The amount is covered via costs for elected officials, which are reduced by NOK 150,000 from NOK 1 million to NOK 850,000.”

The proposal only received support from Venstre, and a representative from KrF. But: Voting explanations were given at the meeting, which gives hope for Borgermusikken’s future. We’re crossing our fingers. There is hope in hanging string!

Civic music must be preserved for those of us living today, and for future generations. Let’s preserve this tradition. Don’t let lean economic times make Larvik lose one of its distinctive features.
