There are coastal riots in Finnmark because of the processing of the quota report in the Storting. We are very proud of our Storting representative Geir Iversen who voted against the setting of the Quota Report. Throughout his parliamentary term, he has fought for the coast of Finnmark to get back the quotas and fishing rights that have been transferred from the region. This could contribute to increased activity and settlement in Finnmark.

It is with surprise that we read in Altaposten that the Liberal Party’s Trine Noodt tries to explain away that all the Liberal Party’s parliamentary representatives voted for the Quota Report and the distribution of the third country quota. If she suddenly supports the coastal fishermen, she should have a chat with her party colleagues in the Storting.

Geir Iversen and Per Olav Lundteigen in the Center Party have been supportive in their work for the coastal fishing fleet, which delivers fish locally and creates jobs on land.

Finnmark Senterparti fully understands that the coastal fishermen in Finnmark are frustrated and has initiated a blockade of the ports to show their concern for the future. National and local control over fishing resources is the basis for settlement in Northern Norway and Finnmark.

The government and the fisheries minister must come to the scene and look at the allocation of the third country quota again. It must be distributed according to the same principle as before between the coast and the trawl fleet. This is particularly important this year when the quota basis for the coastal fleet has been reduced by 50 per cent.
