A smiling royal couple arrived at Kongsberg in brilliant sunshine and greeted those present. They were received by a children’s corps and state administrator in Oslo and Viken, Valgerd Svarstad Haugland.

Regarding the form, the king could state that it is not too bad:

– It’s not too bad for an 87-year-old, the king answered questions from NRK before adding:

– And it will get better! We are working on it. But it’s not that crazy at all.

– Will not notice much difference

In the past, it has been announced that the king was going to scale back on his work duties, but he did not want to go along with that completely.

– No, there probably won’t be that much of a reduction. I probably take some things a bit more calmly, but I don’t think you will notice such a big difference, the king told the press.

The king was back at work on Monday 22 April after he fell ill while traveling in Malaysia in February. He then had a pacemaker operated on. The Royal House has stated that he will now work less in the future due to his age.

King Harald turned 87 on 21 February.

Congratulations on the anniversary

The royal couple visited, among other things, Kongsberg church where there was a packed program on the occasion of the anniversary.

Thursday marks 400 years since the town of Kongsberg was founded by Christian IV of Denmark and Norway.

– We really appreciate the fact that the royal couple is coming to Kongsberg to mark this day with us. This will be a day of joy for the city and all our residents, said mayor Line Spiten in advance.

– We have to congratulate you on the day and wish you luck for the next 400 years, said the king when asked by Laagendalsposten.

– It is exciting what we hear about Bergverket, which will now become an educational institution, it is exciting for Kongsberg to get all that knowledge here, said Queen Sonja.
