Racing on E6 tonight: – Reprehensible

The police have had to deal with several street meetings in the East this evening.

Operations manager Finn Håvard Aas tells VG that they have had to stop several street meetings in Eastern Norway on Tuesday evening.

Streetmeet are meetings where drivers meet to have races. So far, the police have stopped this in Follo, Vestby and on E6 Støkken.

On the latter, all traffic was stopped by the racers.

– They interfere with all other traffic, so a race was carried out. It is completely reprehensible. A high-speed road should not be used as a race track, says Aas to VG.

As of 11.45 p.m., the police have been able to dissolve the street meetings, but do not rule out the possibility that they may resume.

– I take nothing for granted, it’s not even midnight. It is completely unnecessary for us to spend resources on such things, continues the operations manager.

Earlier on Thursday, the police stopped 25 Swedish cars at Svinesund suspected of being on their way to a “street meet” in Norway.

These were deported back to Sweden, as the police fear a disturbance of peace and order.

According to operations manager Svein Gøran Walle, participants in a street meeting are aware of the robbers. So they are the ones who block roads to race.

– Lamborghinis and Audis were among the cars, generally cars that go fast. We had information that they were going to Norway and blocking some sections. Then it’s easier to turn them at the borders, we don’t want to chase them here tonight, Walle told VG earlier on Tuesday.

He said that such events can be life-threatening, as it involves high speed.

– The expulsion itself actually went quite smoothly, Walle concluded.
