In Western Norway, temperatures can reach 24 degrees, according to meteorologist on duty Charalampos Sarchosidis at the Meteorological Institute.

The weather forecast says that it will be at least 18 degrees and warmer along the coast in southern Norway until Saturday. It is still uncertain how Sunday will be.

– We can thank a high pressure in Ireland and a low pressure in Finland for the heat that is coming now. This means that warm air is coming from Greece to the north, says Sarchosidis to NTB.

Sunny in Tromsø

Southern Norway draws the shortest straw this time and will probably have the worst weather in southern Norway going forward. Otherwise, it will be over 20 degrees in several places.

The clouds determine how hot it will be, and a lot of clouds can lower temperatures by two degrees, says the meteorologist.

The days are also sunny in the north. On Tuesday morning, a new record was set for the number of hours of sunshine in April in Tromsø.

No winter weather in sight

After the first weekend in May, however, slightly grayer weather is reported throughout. The meteorologist does not want to declare winter over just yet and recalls that it has snowed in May previously.

– But I can’t see any winter weather in the forecast for the future now, he laughs.

Lots of water in the mountain rivers

If you are going to go in the mountains these days, you must be aware that the rivers may be flooded. The rising temperatures can accelerate the melting of snow in the mountain regions in the south of the country.

In some places, the rivers can reach flood level, warns the Norwegian Directorate of Water Resources and Energy (NVE).

– It is important to stress that there is still a great deal of uncertainty related to the development. Our advice is therefore to follow the flood warnings from Varsom.no, says Seija Stenius, flood watcher at NVE.

Cooler temperatures from Sunday onwards next week slow down the snowmelt, and the water level will then drop again.
