In Christmas 2021, there were two fires in Ryde’s premises in Nygårdsgaten. The company is one of two that rent out electric scooters in Bergen.

The premises were completely damaged, and Ryde moved to Strandgaten. There, too, it started to burn.

There were apartments above both premises. No one was injured, but several apartments were damaged.

Ryde has so far refused to pay the advance they received last autumn. If they lose in court, the sum can be higher.

Preparing for trial

The police believe that Ryde has broken the Fire and Explosion Protection Act.

Ryde, for his part, believes that they should not receive any notice, managing director Tobias Balchen has previously told BT. It has clearly not changed the police’s view of the matter.

Police attorney Kathrine Kannelløning confirms in an e-mail that they are preparing for a trial. She will not comment on the matter beyond that.

It has not yet been decided when the trial will take place.
