(Budstikka) He regretted that, and later he therefore sought help from the local newspaper to find her. Now the woman has made contact.
– I am very happy. We chat a lot. It’s pretty much every day, says the 70-year-old.
It was on 11 April that Jan and the woman met at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam while they were waiting to board the flight to Oslo. Later, they met again by chance on the train to Sandvika.
The conversation flowed and Jan felt butterflies in her stomach for the first time in a long time. But without asking for either her surname or phone number, Jan went home, without the possibility of contacting her again.
He regretted that, and therefore called for the woman in the local newspaper. But even though he had a strong belief that she would make contact, he was aware that there were no guarantees that they would meet again.
– Firstly, she had to see the article, and secondly, she had to want to make contact, says Jan.

But Jan always had faith, and one day a Facebook message ticked into his inbox.
– She asked if it could be her I meant. I was surprised, because I thought she was going to make contact through you in Budstikka, but I was also very happy.
Jan says that the woman thought the request was sweet, and that she also wanted contact with Jan.
– We speak very easily. We laugh and everything feels very natural. I can’t call it just the pleasant, because it will be one understatement. I can’t quite put into words what it’s like, says Jan and confirms that the butterflies are still swirling in my stomach.
But Jan and the woman both agree that they should start carefully, and as friends.
– I try not to push or create expectations. You don’t have a relationship after meeting on the train, but we like each other, and I don’t think we should move forward quickly. It is primarily a friendship, says Jan.
Not a celebrity
The 70-year-old says that many people have recognized him on the street after the newspaper reports, and at home in their own neighborhood they refer to him as a celebrity. Jan has no intention of being that.
– Being a celebrity requires constant media updates, and I don’t intend to do this every time I go to the Netherlands, says Jan, laughing.
