Saupstad, Heimdal | Released after the fire at Saupstad

--

It was on Sunday afternoon that a fire started in an apartment in Saupstad. Several sources Nidaros has spoken to have said that it was a battery from an electric scooter that caught fire on the veranda, and that this must have been thrown onto the veranda where it started to burn.

The lawyer on duty, Christian Spets, could confirm that they had also received information about Sunday evening.

A man in his 50s was arrested and charged in the case, not long after the incident.

Pleads not guilty

The man is charged with negligently causing a fire.

– He has been interviewed and has been released, says Julie Rønningen, the lawyer on duty at the police.

She does not want to go into more detail about what has emerged in the interrogation and whether there is any reason for the incident.

– He does not plead guilty to the charge, says Rønningen.

The police have also carried out crime scene investigations and witness interviews in the case.

The man has not been appointed a defender.

Several residents in the area have told Nidaros that it is far from the first time dramatic incidents have occurred in the building. Read the case here:

Uninhabitable apartments

A total of seven apartments are uninhabitable after the fire. Between 20 and 30 people were evacuated, and four people had to go to the emergency room to be checked.

Police professional investigation manager Jannicke Berg has said that the accused man is an acquaintance of the police.

– But not of this type of incident, says Berg and adds that the accused is previously known for profit-making offences.
