– Fortunately, I was the one who got the job, he says with a big smile.

Jarle Skjennem was preferred among 60 applicants who wanted a job as a car salesman at Brennes Auto.

– We wanted an established car salesman from Sarpsborg. Jarle is a nice guy who will fit in well in the environment here with us, says sales manager Raymon Rognli, who has been heavily involved in the hiring process.

From group to family business

Skjennem comes from the position of car salesman at the car dealer Sulland, where he started selling new cars seven years ago. For the past four years, he has worked in the sale of used cars.

– The years have been educational and it has been an exciting journey that I have been a part of, he says.

He says that Sulland is a large group-run company, and that he is now looking forward to working in a family business where the distance between the top management and the employees is quite close.

Aim for at least 200 cars

During his time at Sulland, he sold around 120 cars a year. At Brennes Auto, he has to step it up a few notches if he is to keep up with the numbers the other sellers can show.

– A salesman here at the house probably passes 200 sold cars a year, he elaborates.

Brennes Auto is a dealer of the car brands Nissan, Mazda and Hyundai. Skjennem will have the greatest focus on selling Hyundai and used cars.

Four cars on a test drive

The start-up at Brennes was last Monday. So far, time has passed to familiarize yourself with the products and the company’s computer systems.

So far, he has not sold any cars with his new employer.

– I have had four cars out for a test drive, he says.

Skjennem has great faith that his first car sale at Brennes is among the potential customers who have now test driven the car.

Personal relationships

In car sales, a lot is about personal relationships between car salesman and customer.

The car make and model is of course not subordinate, but there are many people who choose to follow car salesmen to their new workplace when they need a new car.

– I have already received inquiries from previous customers who say that they will come here next time they need a new car, says the car salesman.

Jarle Skjennem has previously worked with the sale of advertisements in Sarpsborg Arbeiderblad, and in his time helped start up the magazine Bil & Trafikk.
