Sport, SK Fire | Here he leaves the stadium after a performance that has caused Brann to change his mind completely

--

The search for a new right-back was what characterized the winter transfer window in Brann. The coaching staff’s consistent opinion was that Svenn Crone had maximized his potential and therefore played out his role.

That’s why they checked out, among others, Tromsø’s Niklas Vesterlund (later sold to the Netherlands) and Lillestrøm’s Lars Ranger, before finally ending up shelling out five million kroner for the 20-year-old and rather unproven Martin Hellan from Kongsvinger.

Then something happened.

The giant of the track

For Svenn Crone obviously has no intention of giving up his place in Brann. Instead, he has found a gear the fire management had no idea he had.

When Rosenborg was swept by the new hybrid grass at the Stadium on Saturday evening, the Dane was one of the pitch’s giants.

Crone has been so good at the start of the season that the sporting management has now begun to wonder whether the contract, which expires after the season, should not be renewed after all.

– At the end of February, both parties actually agreed to wait, but the way Svenn is playing now, it is natural that we have to have some discussions internally, says sports director Per-Ove Ludvigsen, to BA after the 3-0 victory against RBK.

There has been no dialogue between the parties about a new contract so far, but Svenn Crone repeats what he has said previously. Both he and his family, with his wife and two children, are very happy in Bergen.

– I am open to staying here, but we just have to see what happens. To be completely honest, I don’t think much about the contract. I just try to stay focused on performing as well as possible for Brann, says the Dane.

– Are you playing your best football in your career now?

– Yes, I think so, smiles Crone.

– Are you disappointed that Brann has not taken any action?

– … No, I don’t want to say that. I’m completely honest when I say that I haven’t thought much about this contract thing. I know that things can change quickly in football, replies Crone, who still had to drag his answer a bit.

The right-back turns 29 in two weeks. For a footballer, it means an age where you are happy to hunt for your last good contract. Then length, as well as salary, is important.

– There is obviously something that can come into play, but this is something that my agent takes care of. Quite, quite honestly, I’m only thinking about performing as well as possible for Brann!

Praise from the boss

Eirik Horneland is naturally also very pleased with the pace from the right-back.

– Svenn has had a very good development this year. He has really taken up the gauntlet after Martin (Hellan) arrived. It looks like it has given him a boost that we brought in a new right-back, but that’s how it should be in a club like Brann. There will be a battle for all the positions, says the Brann coach.

Horneland will still not answer whether Crone is a man he wants to keep with him after 2024, but rather makes a stab at BA.

– Three days ago you criticized us for not using enough young players. Now you want us to extend with someone who will soon be 30!

– But that is Per-Ove’s table. We talk well together, but what we talk about I don’t need to tell you again, concludes the Brann coach smiling and as pleasantly dismissive as only he can.
