In Northern Norway, the filling rate last week was 14 percentage points lower than normal, while for the whole country it was 7.3 per cent lower, reports VG.

The situation in Northern Norway and Western Norway pulls the median down the most, but Central Norway also has less water than normal.

According to Europower, the reason why there is such a low degree of filling in northern Norway is a lack of water and snow.

– The reason why it is like this is that there have been dry, and at times also cold, conditions in the north for quite a long time, says power analyst Olav Botnen in Volt Power Analytics.

New bottom record

In week 13, there was 5.9 TWh in the northern Norwegian water reservoirs. It is a new bottom record for the price range NO4, writes Europower. Before, the lowest filling rate measured in NO4 was in week 13 in the last 20 years, 6 TWh.

– Preliminary observations indicate that there is a low inflow, and relatively little snow in the mountains, which may affect reservoir filling throughout the year. The final outcome depends on the weather throughout the summer and autumn, says communications manager Inger Johnsen at Troms Kraft to EnergiWatch.

Production director Marius Larsen at Nordkraft sees no reason to be concerned about the security of supply even though the filling rate is low.

– Compared to the years behind us, we still have far more wind power in the energy mix, which contributes to energy coverage and less dependence on the hydropower reserve in the reservoirs, he tells EnergiWatch.

Northern Norway cheapest

Northern Norway is still the place with the cheapest electricity in Norway thanks to the electricity surplus, both internally in NO4 and in neighboring Sweden.

But when the snow melts and the spring floods hit, Olav Botnen does not believe that prices in northern Norway will fall as they usually do.

– You will hardly notice in terms of prices that Northern Norway will have a spring flood this year, he says to Europower.
