– It will be great fun for me to get to a proper home ground. It’s both big and fun. It will be great fun to see familiar faces in the stands, I’m looking forward to that.

After 17 international matches since her debut two years ago, she is guaranteed to have a great experience when the Handball Girls meet Hungary in a sold-out Åsane Arena on Thursday 4 April.

She says that she has learned a lot in the two years on the national team.

– They are handsome girls, who have a very good team spirit. Seeing how the goalkeeping team works has been very educational. It has been incredibly big and great fun. I am very happy that I have been given the opportunity to participate. I enjoy myself on the national team, she elaborates.

Marie Davidsen was in the European Championship squad 2022 without getting playing time and was a home reserve in the World Cup 2023. The battle for the Olympic place is a narrow needle’s eye.

– There will be a tough fight for a place in the Olympic squad. Norway has two fantastic goalkeepers in Katrine Lunde and Silje Solberg-Østhassel. In general, there are many good goalkeepers in Norway, so it will be very tough to join. It is important to train well and do the best you can when you get the opportunity. Then we’ll see what it’s all about. This applies both to the national team and in the club, she believes.

In the club, Marie Davidsen has been abroad for five seasons. Since she left Tertnes in 2019, it has been two years in German Thuringia and then three years in Bucharest, Romania.

– It’s a little different to playing in Norway. It’s a different culture. But it is an experience of a lifetime, which I would not be without. It’s very funny!

In the autumn there will be a return to Norway and Molde.

– I felt the time was right to get closer to home. It will be very good. I get to live closer to my family, while Molde seems exciting. Now I live a long way from everything in Norway, so it will be nice to join and contribute to a club that makes an effort.

– What does that mean for your national team opportunities?

– I don’t know, really. The optimal thing would probably have been to play in the Champions League, but I think that I have to work well with what I can do something about. It’s to save as many balls as possible, and then I’ll see how far it takes me.

This is the week’s match schedule:

04.04 at 19.15 Norway – Hungary (TV 2 Direkte)
06.04 at 15.00 Switzerland – Norway (TV3)
