– We have obtained a lot of material that goes on digital tracks, but it has not been reviewed yet.

This is what police attorney Ann Iren Svane Mathiassen told NRK on Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday 23 March, four people were found dead in the village of Torpo in Hallingdal. A 59-year-old man was charged with the murder of his wife and their two children.

The police believe the man took his own life afterwards.

Must review technical findings and electronic traces

Before Easter, the police stated that they are working intensively to map the movements of everyone involved, and not least the suspected perpetrator, in the hours before the murders.

The work has continued through Easter: Technical investigations at the crime scene as well as tactical investigation.

– From now on, we will soon be in a phase where it is the review of the material that will be important. We have obtained a large amount of material, a wide spectrum. There are still witness interviews to be taken, and there are technical investigations that have not been finalised, says Mathiassen.

The material obtained concerns mobile activity, digital traces from computers and movements on bank accounts, to film from video cameras in shops and petrol stations.

– Is the work on mapping the movements of the victims and the accused in the run-up to the murders finished?

– It is not finished, but we are well underway – and starting to form a picture of the movements in recent days, answers Mathiassen.

– Can you say anything more about that?

– No, I cannot go into detail. But it is about what they have done and who they have had contact with.

– What about the witness interviews. Has anything new come to light?

– The witness interviews provide us with a lot of information which is important further in the investigation, but I cannot say anything about the exact details and what we have obtained.

Don’t know why they didn’t wake up from the shots

The three victims were shot while they were sleeping. The firearm did not have a silencer. Before Easter, police said they did not yet know why the victims did not wake up from the shots.

– Can the police now determine why?

– We also ask ourselves the question of why they haven’t woken up. It is part of the investigation both now and in the future. I don’t have more than that as of now, replies the police attorney.

Blood samples have been routinely taken from the victims. Mathiassen says that the answers have not come yet, and that it will probably take time before the police get feedback.

When asked if the police know anything more about the motive or cause of the murders, Mathiassen replies:

– We are not doing that as of now, but the witness interviews have given us a lot of good information.

Ingunn Slaatten (53), Sander Slaatten (22) and Signe Slaatten (18), who were killed in Ål in Hallingdal before Easter, will be laid to rest from Ål church on Tuesday 9 April.

The funeral will take place at 1 p.m., according to the obituary.
