It was on the evening of Friday 17 February last year that the 31-year-old was caught by the police with an electric shock weapon at a nightclub in Skien. He was then presented with a proposal which he did not want to accept, as he thought the fine was too high.

Recently, he had to appear in the Telemark district court in Skien, where he confessed to breaking the weapons law.

Previously convicted

District judge Anne Hauge Fagernes has sentenced the 31-year-old to pay a fine of NOK 10,000. If the fine is not paid, he must serve 10 days in prison.

– The prosecution has proposed that the penalty be set at a fine of NOK 10,000, which is in accordance with the South-East police district’s fine directive. The court cannot see that there is any reason to deviate from the starting point that emerges from the directive. The accused was in possession of the weapon in a public place, on the night of a Saturday, which for general preventive reasons makes a noticeable reaction required, the judgment states.

It is also indicated that the 31-year-old, who is in work, has previously been convicted of breaching the Narcotics Act, disorderly conduct and obstructing a public servant.

– This gives a clear indication that the defendant lives in an environment where there is particular reason to crack down on any form of possession of weapons, the judgment states.
