Swedish-Iraqi Salwan Momika (37), who has burned the Koran in several places in Sweden, will now seek asylum in Norway. – He really deserves it, writes Vebjørn Selbekk.

Momika has become a well-known figure after he has been behind a long series of Koran burnings around Sweden in recent years. Several of them have been filmed and shared on social media, and have led to widespread unrest and clashes.

The Koran burnings have also aroused anger and strong reactions in Muslim countries, as well as Western countries with a significant number of Muslim citizens. This led, among other things, to the threat level being raised in Sweden.

Against the background of the Koran burnings, Momika risks persecution in her native Iraq. At the end of last year, it was decided that Momika could not extend his residence permit in Sweden, and the Swedish Migration Agency decided to deport him. This means that he is also not allowed to enter Sweden again for five years.

– I am moving to a country that welcomes me and respects me. Sweden does not respect me, says the 37-year-old to Expressen, which first mentioned the case on Wednesday.

Expressen writes that Momika left Sweden in the morning on Wednesday, heading for Norway, where he will apply for asylum.

– I am on my way to Norway. Sweden only accepts terrorists who are granted asylum and given protection, while philosophers and thinkers are expelled.

Storting politician and immigration policy spokesperson for the Frp, Erlend Wiborg, tells Nettavisen that Momika would like to apply for asylum in Norway.

– The starting point is that he must be allowed to apply for asylum in Norway as he wishes. Sweden has pursued a special policy in the field of immigration for many years, but if Sweden does not want to give him protection, then I see no reason why he should get it here either, says Wiborg.

Editor of the Christian newspaper Dagen, Vebjørn Selbekk, is positive that Momika now wants to go to Norway.

– This is a man who is really in danger of being killed if he is sent to a Muslim country. If there is anyone who really deserves asylum in Norway, it is Koran burner Salwan Momika, https://twitter.com/vebjornselbekk/status/1772978602461495481
