On Friday evening, a freight train derailed at the Arnanipa tunnel.

On Wednesday, work is in full swing to remove the locomotive.

– The locomotive has been pulled out, now we are preparing to lift it onto a truck that can transport it away, says press officer Øystein Stavdal Paulsen in Bane NOR.

It does not mean that the cleanup is finished by any means. Now the work to repair the infrastructure remains.

– We assume that we have to change rails, contact lines, signaling systems. And something called a yoke, that’s the mast where the signal line hangs, says Paulsen.

At 12 o’clock, an excavator pulled the locomotive out of the tunnel, and it has now turned sideways. A crane truck stands ready behind the locomotive.

The area above the tunnel is cordoned off.

There are 10-15 workers who work with the locomotive.

– We don’t take Easter holidays. Here, every effort is being made to get the Bergen line between Arna and Vaksdal fixed, says Paulsen.

At 2.40 pm, Paulsen states that freight wagons and containers have also been cleared away.

– Everything to do with freight trains has been removed. We are now in the process of removing what has been destroyed by infrastructure, he says.

– Is it possible to say something about how long it will take to open the track again?

– No, not yet. We are working as fast as we can to be able to open as soon as possible, says Paulsen.
